On the occasion of the Independence Day of Azerbaijan, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania organised an event in Bucharest.
 
The reception was attended by Romanian statesmen, representatives of the government, deputies and senators, public, political, scientific and cultural figures, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to this country, heads of local media, numerous representatives of the Turkish and Tatar communities and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora.
 
The national anthems of Azerbaijan and Romania were sounded at the beginning of the event.
 
Then, in his opening speech, Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov spoke about the history of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic established in 1918 and mentioned the unique services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in preserving the statehood at the end of the 20th century. He noted that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan had been restored and the “Great Return” programme has been successfully implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The diplomat also touched upon the ever-expanding and deepening multifaceted relations between the two countries and emphasised the importance of the relations between our states and nations.

✅Ms. Ana Birchall, Presidential Counsellor at the Department of Foreign Policy, Strategic Partnerships and Romanians Abroad of the Presidential Administration, congratulated the Independence Day of the Azerbaijani people and noted that the Bucharest administration is interested in sustainable stability, development and prosperity in the South Caucasus. She expressed her gratitude to the state and people of Azerbaijan for their support to Romania and Moldova when the threat of an energy crisis in Europe emerged in 2022.
 
✅Mr. Marian Neacșu, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Romanian-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Friendship Group, emphasising the important role of Azerbaijan in the region, he characterised Azerbaijan as an important state of the South Caucasus and Romania as an important state of the South-Eastern European region. Speaking about the numerous similarities between our nations, he noted that Romania is Azerbaijan's true and reliable friend in Europe.
 
✅Mr. Mircea Abrudean, Vice-President of the Romanian Senate, emphasised that Romania is the second country to recognise the independence of Azerbaijan, the existence of strategic partnership relations between the two countries and the importance of the relevant agreements signed in this field.
 
✅Mr. Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy of Romania, Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Relations and Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania, While discussing the friendly relations between our countries, he quoted the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi. He described Azerbaijan's energy policy as a ‘story of foresight’ and spoke about cooperation in the production and transport of green energy to Europe.
 
The event featured an exhibition of portraits of prominent Azerbaijani statesmen and cultural figures such as Nizami Ganjavi, Shah Ismail Khatai, Mahammad Fuzuli, as well as photos dedicated to large-scale restoration and construction work in our liberated territories, also the development of Romanian-Azerbaijani relations.
 
During the reception, the guests were served dishes of Azerbaijani national cuisine.
