Young Azerbaijanis become prize winners at international jazz competition
The Azerbaijani band Majaz has become a prize winner at the Bucharest International Jazz Competition 2026, held as part of EUROPAfest 2026—one of Europe's prestigious international music forums—in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
Performers from over 20 countries around the world took part in the competition. The band consists of pianist Mahammad Allahverdiyev, double bassist Nijat Pashazade, and percussionist Hasan Bilalov.
The Azerbaijani musicians also performed a solo concert program within EUROPAfest 2026, introducing the international audience to their creative work and modern perspective on jazz art. The group's vivid performance was highly appreciated by both the audience and the professional music community.
EUROPAfest is one of Romania's largest international music festivals. Held since 1993, the festival brings together jazz, blues, pop, and classical music performers from various countries across the globe. Attracting hundreds of musicians from dozens of countries each year, the festival is renowned for its rich concert programs, masterclasses, creative meetings, and international competitions. Since 2005, the festival has been held under the High Patronage of the Royal House of Romania and is recognized as one of Europe's most significant cultural events with the EFFE (Europe's Finest Festivals) label of quality.
