On December 12, 2018 there was held a meeting between Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania Huseyn Najafov.

On December 12, 2018 there was held a meeting between Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania Huseyn Najafov.

During the meeting, Huseyn Najafov presented a copy of his Credentials to Romanian Foreign Minister.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the positive development of bilateral relations between Romania and Azerbaijan, with the participation of both countries on the EU and regional level for the next year.

Minister T. Melescanu noted that Azerbaijan is the only strategic partner for Romania in the South Caucasus, stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan through existing regional opportunities.

In this regard, the minister emphasized that Romanian side interested in the implementation of the Caspian Sea and Black Sea International Transport Route project and expressed satisfaction with the 5th meeting of the Joint Commission on Trade-Economic Relations and Scientific-Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Romanian Government in this year.

The Minister highlighted the possibility of boosting cooperation between the two countries within the EU from the point of view of Romania's presidency in the EU Council in the first half of 2019.

Ambassador Huseyn Najafov noted that Romania is one of the first countries that recognized Azerbaijan's independence, highly appreciated relations between the two countries and the level of political relations between Azerbaijan and Romania.

Later, the ambassador emphasized the importance of bringing the level of economic relations to the level of political relations on the basis of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, mentioned importance of having high level bilateral visits in order to further develop relations between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Romanian Minister wished successes to Ambassador Huseyn Najafov and expressed his confidence that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would provide full support for the implementation of his commitments in Romania.

In turn, Ambassador H. Najafov expressed his gratitude to Romanian Foreign Minister T. Melescanu and stressed that he will involve all his efforts for the further development of relations between our countries.
