A commemorative event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the tragedy of 20 January
On 20 January, National Mourning Day, the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania visited the monument of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, who played a decisive role in conveying the realities of Bloody January to the world, located in Tei Park in Bucharest and laid flowers in front of it.
Later, an event was held at the Embassy in memory of the victims of the tragedy of 20 January. The event was attended by our compatriots living and studying in Romania, as well as representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora.
At the commencement of the event, the Azerbaijani National Anthem was played and the cherished memory of the martyrs of 20 January and all the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of our Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Delivering the opening speech of the event, Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov, referring to the historical chronology of the 80s and 90s, said that Azerbaijan gained its sovereignty and independence as a result of the Azerbaijani people expressing their will as a sign of protest against the prejudiced and selective attitude they were subjected to, not giving in to these bloody murders and showing real unity.
Noting the services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in conveying the realities of 20 January to the world, the diplomat emphasised that the victory of our people in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev was the result of our firm will.
Afterwards, the documentary film ‘Bloody January - Witness Documents’, prepared by the National Archive Department of Azerbaijan and the Centre for Information Support and Electronic Services based on the materials of the State Film and Photo Archive, was screened.
A photo exhibition dedicated to the Bloody January tragedy and a charity table for guests were organised at the diplomatic mission.
