Round table discussion dedicated to Heydar Aliyev’s contribution to the foundation of relations between Romania and Azerbaijan
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania organized, on December 9, round table discussion entitled “The Role of Heydar Aliyev in Establishing the Bilateral Relations between Romania and Azerbaijan.” The discussion brought together senators and deputies of the Romanian Parliament, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, representatives of Turkish organizations, public figures, and media representatives.
Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people and the founder of the modern Azerbaijani state, played a fundamental role in the development of bilateral Romanian–Azerbaijani relations. His political vision laid the groundwork for strengthening a long-term partnership between the two countries — a partnership that continues to grow today. The bust of Heydar Aliyev in Bucharest remains a symbol of this new beginning, and the extensive redevelopment project that will take place next year reaffirms the mutual respect for the history of bilateral relations.
A special moment of the event was the video message delivered by the former President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, who had personally known Heydar Aliyev. In his address, he highlighted the decisive contribution of the Azerbaijani leader to the formation of the modern Azerbaijani state and to laying the foundation of the partnership with Romania.
In his speech, Gudsi Osmanov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, emphasized the historical importance of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership: “He answered the call of the people, and thanks to his political experience and his qualities as a statesman of global stature, he succeeded in pulling the country out of a deep crisis, securing a ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict, and laying the foundations for Azerbaijan’s economic development.”
Participants also had the opportunity to explore an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Heydar Aliyev, illustrating his political journey and his decisive role in shaping contemporary Azerbaijan.
