Delegation of the Azerbaijan Bar Association Pays an Official Visit to Romania
A delegation of the Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA), led by its Chairman Mr. Anar Baghirov, paid a visit to Bucharest, the capital of Romania, at the invitation of the Romanian Bar Association. The delegation included Mr. Shahmar Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the ABA, and Ms. Gozal Huseynzade, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the ABA Secretariat.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation visited the monument of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Bucharest, where flowers were laid and the cherished memory of the National Leader was honored with deep respect and reverence.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation held a meeting at the Ministry of Justice of Romania. During the meeting, the friendly and partnership-based relations between Azerbaijan and Romania were particularly emphasized, and an in-depth exchange of views took place on further expanding bilateral cooperation in the legal field, ongoing reforms, and future prospects for cooperation. Ms. Roxana Simona Momeu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of Romania, provided detailed information on the reforms being implemented in Romania’s justice system, their practical application, as well as the activities of the Romanian Bar Association and opportunities for joint cooperation.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception and invitation, Mr. Anar Baghirov underlined that Romania is one of Azerbaijan’s important partner countries. He noted that the dynamically developing political and economic relations between the two countries also create a solid foundation for legal cooperation. Mr. Baghirov also provided comprehensive information on the large-scale work carried out within the Azerbaijan Bar Association in recent years in the framework of judicial and legal reforms, including institutional development, digitalization processes, and the more than threefold increase in the number of lawyers.
Emphasizing that the Azerbaijan Bar Association operates as a fully independent institution, Mr. Baghirov highlighted the measures implemented within the framework of effective and constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Justice. He also stressed the importance of mandatory training programs for candidates for the legal profession at the Justice Academy, as well as continuous professional development courses for lawyers in enhancing professional qualifications.
As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania. During the visit, the delegation met with the Embassy staff and familiarized themselves with the activities and working conditions of the diplomatic mission. Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, Mr. Gudsi Osmanov, noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations in recent years and emphasized the special importance of cooperation in the legal field, expressing readiness to support the expansion of relations with the Azerbaijan Bar Association. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Anar Baghirov presented the Embassy with the official emblem of the Azerbaijan Bar Association and a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, the delegation participated in the Annual Conference of the Romanian Bar Association. Within the framework of the Conference, issues related to expanding professional cooperation between Azerbaijani and Romanian lawyers, strengthening the exchange of experience, and exploring opportunities for future joint activities were discussed. In his address, Mr. Anar Baghirov expressed appreciation for the high level of hospitality and voiced confidence that cooperation between the two institutions would continue in a more systematic and broader format.
It should be noted that the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, Mr. Gudsi Osmanov, also attended the meetings held within the framework of the visit.
