Press releases on the meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania, H.E. Gudsi Osmanov and the Acting President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean

The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, H.E. Gudsi Osmanov, met today with the Acting President of the Romanian Senate, Mircea Abrudean.

The talks focused on the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, economic and energy cooperation and the security situation in the South Caucasus.

During the meeting, the quality of the interparliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Romania was highlighted, which have contributed to the strengthening of the political dialogue and sectoral cooperation between the two countries. Both sides expressed their wish to deepen these relations through closer cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

Mircea Abrudean emphasized that Romania remains a reliable friend of Azerbaijan, as the two countries have a solid relationship based on a history of strategic cooperation. Romania was the second state to recognize Azerbaijan's independence and the first EU Member State to establish a Strategic Partnership with Azerbaijan in 2009.

On the security situation in the South Caucasus, Mircea Abrudean reaffirmed Romania's firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, within internationally recognized borders. Romania encourages the peaceful settlement of all outstanding issues and underlines the need to respect the principles of international law. Regarding Azerbaijan-EU relations, Romania supports the continued development of cooperation, promoting a constructive, balanced and forward-looking agenda.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, H.E. Gudsi Osmanov, in his turn, expressed his gratitude to Mircea Abrudean for the meeting and highly appreciated the work of both sides in further developing multifaceted relations between the states.

Azerbaijan's role as Romania's main trade partner in the South Caucasus region was emphasized. In the first ten months of 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached USD 590.19 million, marking an increase of 96.98% compared to the same period of the previous year. Energy remains the main pillar of economic cooperation between the two countries.
